From Mississauga
The practical obstacle for most people travelling in is not the distance, it is fitting the appointment into a working day without taking the whole thing off. This page is about the timing rather than the treatment.
How long to block
Budget around half an hour for the appointment itself. Most of that half hour is conversation, the anoscopy is a couple of minutes of it, and you are dressed again immediately afterwards. Add your travel either side and a first visit is comfortably a long lunch rather than a day off work.
A procedure session is shorter than the consultation rather than longer, which surprises almost everybody. Banding takes minutes in an ordinary clinic room, needs no general anaesthetic and no bowel preparation at all, and you walk out and drive yourself home afterwards.
So the thing worth protecting in your diary is the travel window rather than any recovery. The first visit page covers what fills the half hour, preparing for a procedure covers what the day actually requires of you, and aftercare covers the evening.
Choosing a slot
Which direction and roughly what time, because the sensible slot depends on both rather than on the distance.
Plus travel. Most of the appointment is conversation, and the examination is a couple of minutes of it.
Across the course. Rebooking a different time each visit is the part people find hardest to sustain.
Not a day off. No sedation means no lift home, though a demanding afternoon is worth avoiding.
What not to plan around
Do not book a day off work expecting to have a procedure at the very first visit. Screening comes first, and an endoscopic test is expected within a reasonable interval before any banding, so a same-day procedure is sometimes possible and never something to organise your week around.
What a first appointment reliably produces is the grade, the options, a session count and a cost. That is worth the trip on its own, and it is also the thing that lets you plan the subsequent visits properly rather than guessing at them.
So it is worth treating the first one as the planning appointment rather than the treatment one. Preparing for a procedure covers the screening involved, how many sessions covers how many slots you will eventually need, and the first visit covers what it produces.
